Description

Two worlds, one family
Trust your heart, let fate decide
To guide these lives we see.

A girl with a wild heart who avoids the concept of etiquette yet dreams of the world where these rules are set. In her youth, Jade was happy with the simple pleasures of life. Climbing through trees, playing with her family, and even the more than occasional mischief. However, as she grew older she came to realize that she wished to branch out into the world beyond the wilderness to meet others like her. Even so, the fearless girl is still having trouble ridding herself of the dread of the unknown. As dangerous as the jungle can be, it seems much safer in comparison to that which she has only heard about from her mother. Will she dare to step out of the jungle and into the world beyond?

*sigh* Once again, a piece that I spent far too long on the background. Even then it's still not nearly as good as the lush backgrounds seen in the moive. Yes yes, I'm well aware of the fact that in the original Tarzan book he has a son named Jack rather than a daughter, but seeing as how terribly different Disney's version is from the original I decided to do what I wanted. (I mean, come on, Clayton is supposed to be Tarzan's human name, not the name of the villain.)

This was a lot of fun to draw and even more to color. I learned a lot about brush options with Photoshop and actually taught myself to make my own brushes for the grass beneath her. God I love Photoshop. I recalled the movie using a constant array of strong shadows so I really wanted to bring that into this image as well.

I will say one thing though. I do not care for Jane's design in the Disney feature. I really didn't notice while watching the show but after studying her it just bugs me. She has the most deformed eyes, her nose just floats in the middle of her face, she literally has no forehead, and her eyebrows are pretty much ALWAYS tilted in a sad expression. Always. Google her. You'll see what I mean.

Anyways, Jade is slimmer than Tarzan of course, but much beefier than most normal girls. I pulled in a few aspects of her mother (such as those sad eyebrows) but for the most part I wanted to infuse all aspects from her father. The hair, the darkened eye sockets, the longer forearms, and strong chin. The nose is a fusion of both Tarzan's long snozz and Jane's itty-bitty button.

Let me know what you think :)
