Due to the astounding amount of requests I've received, I finally got off my butt and made another Successor piece. Note that to all who love the Successor series, this is the guy you need to thank for its iniital creation. He was actually the first character I thought up but never got around to drawing him. Can you guess who he belongs to?
Well if you couldn't tell it is actually the son of Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty) and Jafar (Aladdin). It seriously sounds like something from a cheesy fan-fiction, but think about it: Jafar and Maleficent both own pet birds, they have a thing for long dark robes with magical staffs, have a tendency of changing into large reptilian beasts, and have an affinity towards hypnotizing and enslaving their victims in chains. eHarmony could not have made a better match.
Anyways, this is Sadiq. You think he'd be a horrible person, being the spawn of two of Disney's most evil villains. However, that isn't quite the case.
Alright, this is how I see it going down. In the early years of his life Jafar became enthralled with the tale of the Magic Lamp and set out on a journey to find any and all means of obtaining it. His travels would lead him into Europe and to a powerful woman who was believed to hold one half of the Golden Scarab; the key to the Cave of Wonders where the Lamp was hidden. This woman, of course, was none other than Maleficent. To put it bluntly, they hit it off (I'll let you fill in the blanks on that little bit). He knocks her up and runs off with not just the scarab, but also her magical hourglass so that she can not use it to find him (which he uses later to find Aladdin in the actual movie). Bad Jafar.
Maleficent, being "pro life" (hah) and in need of an heir decides to keep the child and raise him without the boy ever knowing his father. Sadiq's mummy was very protective of her little successor and harbored him away from all human contact during his youth, teaching him the craft of dark arts and sorcery. Trapped within the confines of her morbid castle, Maleficent's minions were Sadiq's only friends. While they weren't the brightest bunch they still knew how to have a good time and he cherished their friendships dearly. However, later in life after witnessing another of Maleficent's horrendous beatings of several minions, Sadiq had had enough and escaped into the night with a small pack of his friends. Maleficent would have taken chase, but her resources were already spread thin in the final days of searching for Princess Aurora... of course we all know what happened to her soon after.
Now free of her hold, the minions succumbed to their chaotic behavior and began to pillage the surrounding villages. Seeing the horrible acts his friends were committing came as quite a shock to Sadiq, having never witnessed their actions outside of the castle walls. Enraged by their disobedience and hypocritical cruelty he turned his companions to stone, rescuing the villagers from an untimely fate. However, their savior was not welcomed, his frightful appearance only gaining looks of dismay and hate. Distraught and alone, with only his pet hawk at his side, Sadiq wandered through the deserts of Arabia in hopes of finding some clue as to his father's whereabouts.
He would eventually meet and befriend another pair of wandering adventurers. A man by the name of Cassim who had once been the King of Thieves and his wise-cracking parrot. If any of you have seen Aladdin 3 you will know who those two are. Through a string of events Sadiq's heritage will eventually be discovered, much to the shock of Iago. In a sense, I see Aladdin's dad becoming the father figure that Sadiq never had and Iago being Sadiq's last link to the man that had once been. The End.
Yeesh that was long. It really does sound like a cheesy fan-fiction. It's amazing what will come out of your head when you're drawing these characters.
Now I wouldn't really call Sadiq the heroic type. He's more of an anti-hero... and can be a real ass at times too. He's the kind of guy who wants to do good, but never seems to know how to go about doing it. This is mostly because of the lack of nurturing relationships in his life. However, his intentions are good and if given the chance he may try to help if only to gain some much needed acceptance.
For his design, I really tried to incorporate as much of his parents as possible both into his features and attire, as well as pick up on their tendency for striking an epic pose. The background is based very closely on the background seen in the first scene with Jafar in Aladdin. The colors were so saturated!
This is incredible! And no, that's not a cheesy story at all. To be honest, I really love Jafar and Maleficent too, for all the reasons you stated above. And I love Sadiq's character design, he looks really awesome. Great job on this, I really love your "Disney Successors" series.
I actually love this and think it sounds very plausible. I love that he's an anit-hero and not out to avenge his parents or anything. I'd love to see more of him.
Thank you so much Sadly I probably won't have the time anytime soon to flesh him out more but if you'd care to see some other original characters of mine, feel free to check out a webcomic I'm doing with my friend It's got quite a few anti-heroes. They're the best kind in my opinion
Sadly I see that being the only child they'd have based off of the story that would happen Though if you look in the comments below you'll find that someone else made a daughter for them.
You should totally do a one of Frollo and Mother Gothel!
